Designed for the minimum amount of construction time, and with the minimum amount of joints, this Fluid Bed Filter can form the basis of your filtration system, or act as a secondary biological filter.

Remember the inlet does need pre-filtering, especially if you have coral sand in it (recommended) as else it will clog. This could be the output of a vortex filter, through a suitable sludge filter, or from the 'back end' of a conventional filter set up. The issue is discussed on a number of sites, suffice to say it needs reiterating.

Experiments with filter media indicate that coral sand offers the maximum surface area of any currently available media, and the effect on hardness in the pond is negligible. As such we'd recommend it, but if you know different, or have experience with other media, please feel free to contact me or discuss on the forum.
