hey, ive read thru java on planting instructions, and just want to know if theres any wee secrets to planting directly into gravel?
and what Plants are the best for breeding?

best to push them right into the gravel so the roots can expand and hold the plant in, but dont get really sharp ones or they could damgae your fish!

I have no particular secrets, as everything i plant gets re-arranged or eaten by the fish till they have them where they want

Saying that, if you were to buy from java, you would be buying single stalks, unless otherwise stated. Sot the best way to plant them is use foam and lead strips. Wrap the bottom of them stems in some foam or sponge so they don't get damaged, then wrap some lead strip around the sponge to give it some weight, then push this as far down into the gravel as you can

Rockwool, the stuff to insulate lofts, is also quite good to wrap around plant roots.

i am using a substrate that is made of small pebbles (mixture of 2mm and 5 mm grains). is that good for planting?
